The spring semester of my junior year began on the January 17th, and with that everyone has jumped straight into working on our thesis projects. After meeting with my team for the first time this semester, we decided that before we start modeling any environments or characters, we need to confidently understand our art style and direction as a team. Prior to this, we had been pretty separated, as some of us were in the Pre-Production for Story class while others weren't, so coming together to make cohesive decisions is even more important. This way, once we do begin modeling, texturing, layout, etc., we'll all be on the same page.
That means that this week I worked on research and reference-gathering to bring to our next team meeting. Our short is set in the 1970s, in the area that will become Bangladesh, which I don't know much about (especially in that time period). While understanding the events occurring at the time is vital, in my opinion it is equally important to find sources on personal accounts of events to gain a more emotional understanding, rather than just an objective timeline.
In addition, my team and I are still struggling to figure out the layout of our setting, a small village in soon-to-be Bangladesh, so I have been gathering photo reference of aerial views that could help both with layout and establishing a cohesive idea of what our environments will look like.
